Garden Route Unearthed is intended to share with anyone visiting or traveling in the Garden Route all the beauty, adventure and creativity the Garden Route has to offer.

My husband and I explore and describe all the things you can do in the Garden Route. Some posts will be about things you can do in the Garden Route for free. Some will be paid experiences, but rest assured, every location, activity or adventure mentioned on this website, we have been to and experienced ourselves.

We will include many of the better known hot spots and attractions to visit, as many of these are definitely not to be missed when visiting the Garden Route. However, the main purpose of Garden Route Unearthed is to reveal and share those places and locations, whether they be hiking trails, viewpoints, restaurants, or padstals, or just cool spots, that only those that really know the Garden Route, can tell you about

We want to show you things to do in the Garden Route that are less well known, yet just as spectacular.

I love seeking out the path less travelled and scouting out places that are found off the typical visitor’s route and I want to share these incredible discoveries. Where and what is the Garden Route?

The Garden Route is a 300km section of coastline in the Southern Cape of South Africa that stretches from the Breede River in Witsand in the Western Cape to Tsitsikamma and Storms River in the Eastern Cape.

The area is sandwiched between the mountain ranges of the Outeniqua and Tsitsikamma Mountains and the coastline of the Indian Ocean. The name comes from the rich and lush coastal forests and vegetation that run along the sandy beaches of the coastline
